Historians in Mr. Hagstrom’s Local History elective extended their school week on Saturday by attending the Mahkato Wacipi (Pow Wow) to experience Dakota traditions and culture. While in the valley, they honored the 38 at Reconciliation Park in Downtown Mankato and visited the bison herd in Minneopa State Park.
At the Harkin Store and the Hermann Monument, the class learned about the early settlers in the area. German cuisine at the Kaiserhoff at New Ulm ended our day before traveling back home.
Including multiple perspectives into our studies, the students are experiencing first hand how complex, interesting, and difficult studying history can be.
