Even though the school year officially kicks off today, last week our sports teams were in full stride! Cross Country saw its first event of the season with beautiful weather at a scenic course at Robert Ney Memorial Park Reserve. According to coach Heimerman, “Our boys all came in under 23 minutes, with some personal best, while our girls pushed hard through their first competitive races and achieved a handful of personal bests as well.” Numbers continue to grow for the newly added program. The Falcons Cross Country team will be traveling to Holdingford to compete this Thursday, 9/5/24.
Last week Falcon Volleyball started a winning streak by defeating Dawson-Boyd and YME. As coach Tolzin phrased it, “Friday night was a barn burner!” Facing YME at our home opener, we saw a lot of back-and-forth match play. The Falcons started off strong but struggled to close it out early on. Winning in 5 sets coach, Tolzin is pleased with the progress these ladies are demonstrating. “The girls continue to grow, learn, and transfer what we are working on in practice to match night. We have a few things we need to keep fine tuning, but we are looking forward to having a competitive and fun season!” Our Falcon Volleyball team will host Buffalo Lake-Hector this evening, 9/3/24. C-Squad will start at 4:45, followed by JV, then varsity.
Falcon Football hosted their home opener as well last week, defeating Maple Lake 28-6. The first quarter could have been seen as two boxers feeling each other out, before sophomore Brody Straumann took off! Coach Blom said, “We were able to soften up Maple Lake’s defense with Brody’s ground and pound style of running.” Brody ended the night with three touchdowns. Coach Blom is also happy to see the younger athletes stepping up the challenge. After graduating a large number of starters, the team will look to a new batch of captains to lead. “Captains Cam Giese, Braxton Kragenbring, Riley Johnson, and Joseph Sherwood are all playing well on both sides of the ball.” Aside from having a new group of captains, the Falcons also see a new quarterback in the backfield; Brayden Schroeder. “We were pleased with Brayden Schroeder in managing the game and keeping great control of the huddle throughout the game." The Falcon Football team will travel to Browerville this Friday, 9/6/24, with 7:00 pm kickoff.
